Weird News and Weekend Plans: From Crime Updates to Movie Marathons

Carol Marks

TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

Every Friday brings a chance to reflect on the week's most thought-provoking stories, and this episode doesn't disappoint. While driving to work with "Carol" by the Rolling Stones playing, I found myself wondering about other songs featuring women's names - a simple question that sparked the day's first contemplation.

The news cycle delivered its usual mix of disturbing and absurd this week. We follow up on the investigation of a rapper whose Tesla contained the remains of a teenage runaway. Though not named as a suspect, he's reportedly vacated his $4 million Hollywood Hills rental after police searched the property. Meanwhile, Oklahoma's education department has announced a controversial plan to mandate Turning Point USA chapters in every high school statewide, threatening to revoke accreditation from schools that don't comply. This raises serious questions about the appropriate boundaries between education, politics, and activism in our school systems.

Perhaps most bizarre was tennis star Serena Williams' social media post expressing discomfort over cotton plants used as hotel decor, visibly shuddering at the sight despite cotton's ubiquity in everyday products from clothing to bedding. It highlights how easily performative outrage can overshadow more meaningful conversations about substantive issues.

As we head into the weekend, I'm looking forward to continuing our family movie marathon tradition with Batman films and catching some college football. These small pleasures provide balance in a world often dominated by troubling headlines. What songs with women's names do you love? And where do you stand on mandating political clubs in schools? Share your thoughts and have a wonderful weekend!

SPEAKER_00:

Hello, good morning. Welcome to Friday. I want to start off with a question of the day. And I may have asked this one before, so I'm going to give you several to choose from. On my way into work today, I was listening to music, believe it or not, instead of my um Bible in a year podcast, only because it's a long story. I hate to get into it, but I couldn't find where I left off on my podcast with Bible in a year because the Apple updates, and it's just it made all my podcasts go weird on Apple Podcast Player. So I have to take the time now to go through the episodes to see where I left off. I know what day it is, but I just couldn't find. I was driving at the time, so I'm like, I can't mess with it. So I put on Spotify. And in my rotation, I have a song called Carol. And it's by the Rolling Stones. And it made me think, what other songs have a female's name as the title? So that's my question of the day. What is a female titled song? Or if you don't like that question, then what is your favorite rock band? It doesn't have to be rock band. What's your favorite band? And then I thought, well, who's the best ever guitarist in the whole wide world? So there you go. Those are several you can choose from. All right, we need to move on to the stories of the day. And I want to start off with uh I'm gonna save the silliest for last. But let's see, we uh we have an update from that rapper guy who uh a 14-year-old girl's body was found in his trunk of the car, I think in an airport somewhere in a Tesla. Now the uh I think the FBI has raided, okay, let's read the story. Romantic homicide singer David has reportedly broken his lease and moved out of the four million dollar mansion he was renting in Los Angeles just days after it was raided by cops after a 15-year-old runaway was found dismembered in the trunk of his nearby Tesla. So they're looking at this guy. Movers were spotted hauling the New York-born singer's belongings out of the Hollywood Hills crash pad earlier this week after he suddenly opted out of the$20,000 a month$20,000 a month rental in the wake of the murder investigation. The four-bedroom home where he'd been staying was searched by police on September 17th as cops continued to probe how the decomposed remains of Teen Runaway, Celeste Revisitor Hernandez, ended up in the back of his car earlier this month. Yeah, I'd like to know too. So thank you for the update. We still don't know, but at least they're looking at this guy. I guess they have to since the car was registered to him. It wasn't immediately clear if David was still there when the cops searched the property or where he is now. The singer whose legal name is David Anthony Burke has not been named as a suspect in the teen's death. If he's not been named as a suspect, how can they go in and search his home? The teen's body was found back on September 8th. Okay, we know all that. Anyway, there's your update. A little bit of an update, anyway. Now I want to move on to from a story from the life site uh site. Let me get over here to it. Sorry, I should have had it ready. Okay, here we go. Uh-oh, I thought I had it. Alright, so I'm getting there. Oklahoma. Okay, Oklahoma moves to open turning point chapter at every high school in state after Kirk assassination. This is a good idea. However, I think they've they're trying to mandate it, and I don't think that is a right thing to do. Just my opinion. Let's read it and find out. The Oklahoma State Department of Education has announced intentions to mandate chapters of populist activist group Turning Point USA in every high school in the state in honor of the work of the organization slain leader Charlie Kirk. Kirk was, well, we know he was shot and assassinated. We know that. Um, on Tuesday, Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced plans for putting TP USA on every high school campus in Oklahoma, specifically through TPUSA's Club America high school program, which promotes everyday activism on a range of issues. Charlie Kirk inspired a generation to love America, to speak boldly, and to never shy away from debate, Walter said. Our kids must get involved and active. How about you teach them science, history, all that stuff, math, reading? I don't know how I feel about getting into high schools with any kind of I mean, yes, you can have clubs and organizations, but I don't think you should mandate it. And I don't think it should be focused on activism. You know, what happened to chess club or, you know, I I don't know. This is our kids must get involved and active, he said, added in a release. We will fight back against the liberal propaganda pushed by the radical left and the teachers' union. Our fight starts now. I get that. I understand it because the left is doing it. I suppose we should have to do that, but it was should it be in high school and should it be mandated? I don't know. The OSDE announced shared information on how students okay, we know that. The announcement has received pushback. Tulsa Public Schools board member and Democrat congressional candidate, John, whoever his name is. So they talked about taking away accreditations and taking away certificates. Here we go. Uh Walters told the radio station he would move to punish schools that did not comply. I think this is wrong. I mean, we would go after their accreditation, he said we will go after their certificates. So yeah, they would be in danger of not being a school district if they decided to reject the club that is here to promote civic engagement. What do y'all think about that? Maybe that should be the question of the day. I don't know how I feel about that. I need your input on it. Uh, should this be mandated? I mean, I understand why, because the left is in there, they're doing it, but they're not mandating it. They just have it to be taken over. And I don't know if we should be doing this. I d my gut reaction is no. We should not be mandated. Okay, we need to move on to the next story, which I find just absolutely absurd. And it's and it involves Serena Williams. You ready for this? Okay, let me just tell you in general what it's about. She stayed at this hotel in New York City. You know how you walk down the hallways and they have decorations and everything. Well, there was a decoration there that she got offended by. You know what it was? You'll never guess. It had a vase with some cotton plants in it. She took offense to the cotton plants. Yes, I'm not kidding. Serena Williams shared her discomfort after discovering a decorative cotton plant in a New York City hotel. All right, everyone, how do you feel about cotton as decoration? As she asked fans via Instagram stories on Thursday while walking toward the plant in a hallway. She added, Personally for me, it doesn't feel great. In another slide, she plucked a cotton ball off a branch and took it into her thumbnail, stating that it feels like nail polish remover cotton. Well, it's cotton, sweetheart. The tennis grate, 43 years old, visibly shuddered before walking off camera. And they have a picture of it, and it's just, you know, cotton plants. Honey, if you're offended by that cotton plant, then maybe you should take off what you're wearing. You maybe you shouldn't wear any clothes. Because you know, clothes is making the cotton, you make clothes out of cotton and a whole bunch of other things. Maybe the sheets you sleep on, the towels you use. There's a lot the weaves you wear. I don't know if cotton is in it or not, synthetic, but I mean, come on, honey. No, you cannot be offended by cotton. Give me a break. And you know what she's trying to imply, right? Yeah. What a stupid person. She was in New York to support Kim Kardashian skims. Let me guess. They're probably made out of cotton too. Nike collab launch. It's unclear which hotel she was staying at. A rep for Williams did not immediately return page six's request for further comment. Williams' uncomfortable comment comes amid social media backlash over her over the athlete's partnership with GLP1 medicine company. And then the article goes on and on and on about her stupid weight loss with the with the GLP1, whatever it's called, whatever she's pushing. What a stupid person she is has become. I'll tell you what, I don't even know. I don't even know. Alright. Let's see what time are we at? Oh, we're at 9-11. So yeah, that's it. I hope you all have a great weekend. Hopefully, the gent and I will be back on Sunday for our Brood Awakening episode. And I hope you have a great weekend. Stay safe out there. We're gonna watch, we we've decided to watch all the Batman movies. That's what's next. We finished the Indiana Jones uh movies. Um so now we're gonna go to the Batman, which the Batman movies, which my daughter recommended we do. Uh, and uh so that's that. And then we got uh football tomorrow all day in Alabama and Georgia plays at 6 30 tomorrow. So I'll be watching something else. I don't know. Alright, gotta go. Thanks for listening. Love y'all. Bye. Have a great weekend.
