From Deadly Lightning to Political Tension: A Morning Roundup

Carol Marks

TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

Lightning strikes in the most unexpected ways. The mystery of two young elk hunters found dead in Colorado has finally been solved with a shocking twist – they were instantly killed by lightning, leaving only slight burns on their bodies. It's a stark reminder of nature's unpredictable power even for experienced outdoorsmen.

Meanwhile, the political landscape grows increasingly volatile. Keith Oberman deleted threatening social media posts directed at CNN analyst Scott Jennings with the ominous words "You're next, mother effer" – a troubling example of how political disagreements are escalating beyond healthy discourse. This comes as ABC reinstates Jimmy Kimmel while Sinclair Broadcasting refuses to air him until he apologizes for recent controversial remarks.

On a more thoughtful note, Bill Maher and Rob Reiner engaged in a fascinating debate about whether people from opposite political sides should continue talking to each other. Maher insists dialogue must continue regardless of disagreements, while Reiner argues some baseline agreement on facts must come first. Their exchange perfectly captures America's struggle with maintaining civic discourse across deepening divides.

Taking a breather from the heavy news, I've been rewatching "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and rediscovering the joy of revisiting favorite shows. Tony Shalhoub's brilliant performance, the stunning period costumes, and the complex family dynamics make it worth multiple viewings. This led me to wonder: what movies or shows do you find yourself returning to again and again? For me, "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" and the "Ocean's" movies never lose their charm. Share your favorites and let me know what makes them eternally rewatchable!

Speaker 1:

Hello, good morning, happy Tuesday. I didn't really miss an episode yesterday. I did record one and upload it, but then my there's a certain feature that I extra feature that I pay for on my Buzzsprout account and it was not working apparently. So I contacted uh help, support ticket, whatever, and they are. I tell you what this support team over at best sprout is the best ever, because they respond right away and they usually fix it right away and it was fixed. It wasn't fixed till later. They had they took them all day to fix it, but they still did it and they stayed on it. They stayed in contact with me and so it is fixed. It is published now.

Speaker 1:

I published Mondays yesterdays early this morning, so now you'll have two to go over when you wake up this morning and look at the podcast. Okay, all right, I have a couple of stories here. Let's see. Let me go over to my notes section and let's see what do we have for you. We have an update. Okay, so I did a story yesterday which you did not listen to because you couldn't, so hopefully you'll listen to it today because I have an update for you today about it and we'll get there. Oh wait, this, is it right here? This is the update. All right, ready. Um?

Speaker 1:

The two 25 year old elk hunters who were found dead in the Colorado wilderness after vanishing for a week because I thought that was weird that they died after a week just a week of being there that they died Uh, something was up with it. And sure enough of being there that they died. Uh, something was up with that, and sure enough it was. They were struck by lightning. How they were both struck by lightning, I don't know, but they were. That's weird. Andrew porter and ian stosco died instant, instantaneously, when they were struck by lightning while out hunting on the rio, on the rio los Pinos trailhead, a remote area in the National. I guess lightning can spread. The pair were found under a tree with slight burns on their bodies. A slight burn is like if you take a match and stick it on your arm, and there were only two or three of them. Wow, that's weird. The two seasoned outdoorsmen died instantly, though martin has yet to determine the exact time of death. This kind of death is just instant. It's like you're alive and now you're not. The coroner said just Just that quick split second. Full autopsy results for Porter of Asheville, north Carolina and Stosko of Salt Lake City, utah, will take roughly eight weeks to be released, but Martin told people he is confident in the preliminary findings. So there you have it. That's what happened to those two hunters.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's move on to the next story. Here we go. Nope, I keep trying to find my notes and I can't find them. I'm trying something. I'm trying something different instead of instead of putting my stories that I want to talk about out on X, because X will punish you for putting external links on there. It will punish your engagement or visibility or whatever. So I've been trying to store the stories that I want to talk about in my notes section. So that's why I had to keep going back and forth. All right, the next. Oh, keith Oberman, my goodness gracious. Going back and forth, all right, the next. Oh, keith oberman, my goodness gracious. He has lost his mind.

Speaker 1:

Liberal political commentator keith oberman deleted a social media post monday in which he appeared to threaten conservative cnn and analyst scott jennings. This is what this is what it read. Your next, mother effer. Read oberman's deleted ex-post, according to a screenshot shared by town hall columnist Dustin Grage. But keep mugging to the camera. The former MSNBC and ESPN host added in another deleted tweet. According to the grabs, jennings retweeted from gage while tagging fbi director cash patel. Yeah, cash patel's not going to do anything. Oberman appears to have been responding to a tweet from jennings, reacting to abc reinstating late night jimmy kimmel hill, by the way. Yes, jimmy kimmel has been put back out on the air, but Sinclair says they will not air him until he apologizes, and he won't do it. So there you go, all right.

Speaker 1:

So, keith, let me tell you Trump derangement syndrome is a real thing. These people have lost their ever-loving mind. They really have. They are demented. Is that the right term? Is that the right term? All right, here's another one. Here's another one with TDS. Okay, here we go. Not Bill Maher, although I think he may have taken some medicine for his TDS, because he seems to be doing better. But he's also talking to Rob Reiner, and they clash over whether the right and left should still talk to each other. My answer is yes. Yes, we should. I mean, we have to. This is ridiculous. But Rob Reiner, no, he's a. He's a tedious victim too.

Speaker 1:

On Monday's episode of his Club Random podcast, comedian Bill Maher sparred with Hollywood director Rob Reiner over whether the right and left in America should keep talking to each other. Now, I don't know if you remember years ago, a few years ago, whenever Rob Reiner was all over X, you know, talking about how awful Trump was, and I think when Elon bought x, that's when rob decided well, I'm not going to stay over here anymore, although I think he still is. I don't know, I don't follow him, but his, his rhetoric is terrible too. I mean, all right, bill. Maher insisted that both sides should continue talking, despite the heightened political tension in the country, inflamed in recent weeks by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. While the Hollywood liberals said there might be exceptions if people can't agree on basic facts, maher disagreed, calling Reiner's point a slippery slope. Hmm, well, before you have the exchange, you have to agree on certain facts. Reiner said no and Maher said no, you don't, you can't. Once you start down that road, you just have to talk to people.

Speaker 1:

Reiner, an outspoken critic that's a, putting it mildly, outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, opened the discussion by saying conservatives and liberals today are less willing to sit down and hash the out issues than in previous eras. I agree, of course. Maher agreed and criticized Democrats for refusing bipartisan cooperation at a time when Republicans hold more political power. This would make some sense for the Democrats if they had any power, he said. But the idea of we don't talk to you when we don't even have the power? Of course you have to talk to people? Reiner partially agreed, though he maintained that there has to be some agreement between both sides before dialogue can start. Of course there's agreement on both sides. I mean, look at the four Republicans who stood up to defend Elon Omar. Did you bring that up to Rob Reiner? Whatever, all right. So anyway, the article goes on. It's at the New York Post. If you want to go see it, if you want to listen to it, all right. I think that's really all I've got for you.

Speaker 1:

Today I'm re-watching the Marvelous Mrs Maisel. I recommend it. However, it does have a lot of F-words in it, but I don't know. I like the era that it was done in. I like the costumes. I like the cinematography of it all. The costumes. I like the cinematography of it all.

Speaker 1:

I like the storyline. It's really. Tony Shalhoub is in it. Come on, he plays the dad. He is hilarious in this show. It sometimes gets a little sideways with some of the, some of the episodes. It's like, why are? Why are we seeing this? But it's about a Jewish family and the daughter who wants to become a comedian and it's. It's really good. Just the dynamics of all the relationships. It's funny.

Speaker 1:

Now I've watched all five seasons before and it's so funny to re-watch it again because I remember some of it but I don't remember a lot of it and I used to make fun of not make fun of my daughter, but I used to question why she would reread books or go rewatch movies not necessarily movies, but but I'll rewatch. I've been rewatching a lot of movies in series two now, and I get it because there's stuff you either didn't pick up on or you view it differently or you've just forgotten. There's so many things I've rewatched lately that I'm like, oh, I've forgotten all about this. And even like Broadchurch. I rewatched the whole thing of Broadchurch and I swear I didn't know who killed the boy in the series. I couldn't remember who did it or how it even ended. Okay, I know I'm going on and on.

Speaker 1:

I guess my question of the day would be what is a movie that you could watch over and over again? I like oh Brother, where Art Thou? I could watch that over and over again. I also like the Men in Black. I also like Oceans, the Oceans movie, oceans 11 with George Clooney and Brad Pitt, and all of them. I love those movies. I think those are my favorite, probably. So, yeah, that's it. That's all I've got for you today. Thanks for listening. Bye.
