Iran-Contra to Kiss Cams: Tuesday's Quirky News Digest
Did you know Oliver North is still alive—and just got married? At 81, the Iran-Contra figure secretly wed his former secretary Fawn Hall, 40 years after they became household names during one of the Reagan administration's biggest scandals. This surprising union kicks off our Tuesday news roundup that blends nostalgic political history with contemporary viral moments.
Remember that Coldplay Kiss Cam couple that had everyone talking? Turns out there's more to the story. The woman's husband has confirmed they were already separated and filing for divorce before the concert even happened—a perfect example of how quick we are to create narratives without knowing the full picture.
The state of modern journalism gets a critical eye as we dissect a puzzling article about Hershey Park's oldest roller coaster. Despite multiple paragraphs, the story somehow manages to say absolutely nothing substantive about the "off-ride guest issue" mentioned in the headline. It's no wonder reading habits are declining when content this empty fills our news feeds.
We also examine the contrast between message and actions as AOC's campaign reportedly spent thousands at luxury hotels while headlining "Fighting Oligarchy" rallies with Bernie Sanders. The $3,500 stays at upscale accommodations raise questions about consistency between political messaging and practical choices.
This marks our 901st episode, with just 99 more to go before we reach our planned conclusion at episode 1,000. Have you been with us from the beginning, or are you just joining our morning conversations? Either way, we'd love to hear about the most luxurious hotel you've ever stayed in—mine was the Bellagio in Vegas, and I still dream about that spa experience!

Hello, good morning. It's Tuesday, let's get right to it. I have four stories for you. They're pretty light, short, easygoing. Here we go. Congratulations to Oliver North and Fawn Hill not Hill Fawn Hall who secretly got married last week, 40 years after the Iran-Contra scandal.
Speaker 1:This is from the New York Post and, as a freedom entrepreneur on X said, my first thought, oliver North is still alive. My sentiments exactly Y'all. He's 81 years old. Can you believe it? I remember I think this is probably one of the first stories CNN covered, because it was on. This is before Fox News came out and everything. I think this is when CNN first came out as a cable news network, because I remember watching it as a teenager. It was on my grandparents. I was living with my grandparents, so I lived with my grandparents the last two years of my high school days and I remember this being on their television set all the time. So I think this was probably one of the first stories CNN covered as a cable news network, like nonstop type thing. Let me get my phone unlocked here so I can get back to the story, All right. So, yeah, that's what I remember about it. All right, I ran Contra Figures.
Speaker 1:Oliver North and Fawn Hill secretly married 40 years after scandal report. He's, like I said, oh my gosh, stupid ad. He's 81 years old, she's 65. And none of his children attended All right.
Speaker 1:North, a retired Marine Corps lieutenant colonel, was a member of former President Ronald Reagan's National Security Council when, in the late 1980s, he was accused of facilitating illegal weapons sales to Iran. The scheme was aimed to oh my gosh, these stupid-ass fucking commercials. I'm sorry, okay, I can't do this. Oh my gosh, pause. Okay, I can't do this. Oh my gosh, pause. Okay, all right, I'm sorry, let's see if this will work now.
Speaker 1:Oliver North and his loyal former secretary Fawn Hall I keep wanting to call her Hill reportedly married in secret last month, 40 years after their leading roles in the infamous Iran-Contra affair. A copy of the couple's marriage license obtained by journalist Michael Isikoff shows North 81 and Hall 65 were married in Arlington County, virginia, on August 27th. It was a secret marriage, a friend of the newlyweds told Issaqov. Well, no kidding. North says he's already read all that. The scheme was aimed at encouraging Iran-backed militants in lebanon to release american hostages, while proceeds from the arms sales were diverted to support the contra rebels in nicaragua, which was prohibited under the boland amendment.
Speaker 1:So I remember, like I said, I remember this in high school, but I didn't understand it at the time. I still don't't kind of understand it, but in that short little paragraph, that's what it was about. Well, you can move, you can. I'm going to move on to the next story. There you go, though. How about that? Congratulations to the couple, I guess. But at the end of the end of the thing it was kind of sad. They said none of his children attended the wedding, which, you know, maybe it was a secret. They're probably grown my age already, maybe I don't know. Who knows why they didn't attend. They probably live in their own lives already by now. All right, we need to move on to the next story, which is let's see, I've already forgotten what it's about. Y'all bear with me, I apologize. Let's see, we already did.
Speaker 1:Oh, so, speaking of relationships, I knew there was a theme to this this morning. Another relationship Remember the Coldplay Kiss Cam couple? Well, come to find out the woman. She was already separated from her husband and they had already filed for divorce before this even happened. So there you go, I'm going to try to open this damn New York Post thing, and I swear if it goes to commercials, I'm going to. All right. Sorry, I don't know what is wrong with me. I tried to clear my throat this morning, didn't work.
Speaker 1:Andrew Cabot, the jilted husband of the astronomer HR Honcho, kristen Cabot, has spoken out about the pair's divorce in the wake of her viral kiss cam moment with former CEO Andy Byron during a Coldplay concert. The Massachusetts entrepreneur who is the CEO of the New England distillery Privateer Rum has addressed the duo's ill-fated union. After Kristen pulled the plug and filed for divorce last month Sorry, sorry A spokeswoman for the businessman 61, told people that he and Kristen were privately and amicably separated several weeks before the Coldplay concert. And let's see what else. Their decision to divorce was already underway prior to that event. The statement continued. Now that the divorce filing is public, andrew hopes this provides respectful closure to speculation and allows his family the privacy they've always valued.
Speaker 1:Well, there you have it. Not that it's a big deal. Whatever, I don't even care anymore. I have it on here because I couldn't find anything else and I wanted you to have an update on that, all right.
Speaker 1:So this next story I picked in particularly not for the content, well, kind of for the content, not necessarily for the story, but this is one of those articles that I cannot stand because it repeats the same thing of nothingness in every paragraph. But it's another Hershey Park story and there's nothing to this story. There's nothing in it. I don't know why they wrote it. They must have had an empty space they needed to fill. And let me read this to you and you're going to see what I'm talking about. They say the same thing over and over again and it's nothing.
Speaker 1:All right, the headline is Riders forced to evacuate Hershey Park's oldest roller coaster due to off-ride guest issue. And the off-ride guest issue is in quotations Nobody. It doesn't explain what it is. What happened? Nothing. All right, you ready for this? I'm gonna read this is and this is. I can't stand it. It's nauseating and I have to share it with you.
Speaker 1:All right, eager thrill seekers had to be rescued from atop Hershey Park's oldest roller coaster Sunday after the rides train stopped in its tracks due to an off-ride guest issue. That was the first paragraph. Second paragraph the Comet, a 75-year-old wooden coaster, came to a halt around 5 pm after an unspecified issue forced a shutdown in the middle of the amusement park ride. That was the second paragraph. Comet experienced a temporary stoppage on the track which was caused by an unrelated off-ride guest issue. Per our protocols, our team safely escorted guests off the roller coaster and back into the station without issue and the ride was reopened. A Hershey Park representative told CBS 21. That was the third one. Here's the next one.
Speaker 1:The ride stopped moving during one of its first ascents, making for a relatively easy hike back down the slope. According to video captured by onlookers, the Comet doesn't feature any upside-down turns that would make any malfunction more precarious, just a few tame bunny hills and drops that were considered novel when it was first installed in 1946. Now it's flanked by the park's more notorious coasters with death-defying drops, including Skyrush, which has a steep yellow tower visible from the parking lot. It's been a turbulent summer for the beloved Pennsylvania Amusement Park. And then it goes on to talk about other stories, like that boy they had to rescue from the monorail. Somebody else, I think, um, a little girl, drowned in this in the water parks wave pool. So this story says nothing and that just breaks. No wonder people don't want to read anything anymore. That's why people are fascinated with 30 second videos on tiktok. They don't want to read anything because nobody writes anything. Oh, and it makes people like me who want to write, who have a blog in americanscom and I write at the Vintage Girls blog Nobody wants to read anymore. I understand now, all right.
Speaker 1:Moving on, aoc's campaign spit thousands at ritzy hotels while headlining fighting oligarchy rallies with Bernie Sanders. I'm not going to get into this a whole lot because I'm running out of time, but it is on my x-file if you would like to go read it. About what all she did. New York squad AOC, who fancies herself a working class champion against the ultra wealthy, appears to have lived it up at ritzy hotels with her team during her cross-country fighting oligarchy tour with fellow far-left Bernie Sanders. Of course, aoc's campaign shelled out $3,500 alone at the Vedera Hotel and Spa, which boasts a five-star relaxation retreat in posh penthouses in Las Vegas. During the tour in March, it was not immediately clear what type of services the darling of the socialist set may have enjoyed at the costly hotspot, what time frame was involved or how many staffers helped rack it up the hefty bill which was first reported by the Washington Examiner. Aoc and Sanders, a millionaire, began their fighting oligarchy tour earlier this year to mobilize the country's progressive base against the Trump admin. Yeah, we know that Her campaign's Vegas hotel expenditure occurred around the time of a town hall event she participated in, about 20 minutes away with Sanders and so-and-so the only division that is truly hurting our okay, whatever, you can go finish reading that. Who knows if it was her or if it was somebody else? Let's see.
Speaker 1:Aoc's campaign made another eyebrow-raising expenditure in April when her political apparatus spit another $3,500 on accommodation at Asher Adams, a luxury hotel in striking views of the Salt Lake City, utah. Her team listed the disbursement days after the April 13th rally she attended. I mean, it could have been her, it could have been her staff, who knows. But yeah, keep an eye on that. I guess Not that anything bad, not that anything's going to come out of it.
Speaker 1:All right, we need to move on to the question of the day and my question of the day. When I read her expensive hotel bills and stay, I thought I want to ask when you've traveled before in your travels, what was the poshest, most expensive luxurious place you've ever stayed at? And I'm going to tell you that we stayed at the Bellagio when we went vacation in Vegas one time. We had a suite. It was very nice, in front of the fountains. That was a vacation, once-in-a-lifetime thing, very nice. That was probably the fanciest place I've ever stayed in in my entire life and ever will stay, ever. And you know, we didn't pay full price for it, because at the time, many years ago when this happened uh, several years ago, we would also. We were going to tunica back and forth a lot back then, and back then the property we stayed at in Tunica was owned by MGM. It was an MGM property, so we racked up points and stuff like that throughout the years, which in turn helped us get a deeply discounted on the Bellagio suite that we stayed in. It was very nice. And the spa experience, my goodness gracious, very nice spa indeed.
Speaker 1:And what else? Oh, totally off topic, here again, I noticed on my stats on the podcast that yesterday was 900th episode. It was my 900th episode, which means, well, this is 901, which means now I only have 99 more episodes to go before I shut this down. I won't be doing the podcast anymore. A lot can change between now and then, though I say I'm going to stop doing it at a thousand episodes. Who knows, a lot can happen between now and then. All right, but anyway, in the meantime, thanks for listening. I appreciate y'all. Bye, have a good one.
