Midweek Musings: Christian Fundraising, Abortion Risks, and School Libraries

Carol Marks

TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

When principles collide with practicality, where do we draw our moral lines? This episode dives deep into several contentious issues where faith-based values and contemporary social challenges create complex ethical dilemmas.

We begin by examining how GiveSendGo, a Christian crowdfunding platform, is defending its decision to host a half-million-dollar fundraiser for a murder suspect's legal defense. While the company's co-founder Jacob Wells admits he isn't "proud" of hosting the campaign, he justifies it as "standing on principle" and "loving people even in the midst of very hard and dark places." This stands in stark contrast to major platforms like GoFundMe that have refused similar campaigns, raising profound questions about where compassion ends and enabling begins.

The conversation shifts to public health concerns with an examination of a troubling new study on abortion medication safety. According to research cited, nearly 11% of women taking abortion pills experience serious adverse effects—a rate allegedly 22 times higher than what appears on medication labels. Despite these alarming statistics, FDA leadership appears hesitant to take action, demonstrating how regulatory inertia can persist regardless of changes in political administration.

We also explore a Pennsylvania school board's unanimous decision to restore controversial LGBTQ-themed books to school libraries despite previous determinations they weren't age-appropriate. This highlights the continuing tension between parental authority, educational institutions, and cultural representation in our schools. These three issues collectively demonstrate that meaningful institutional change requires more than just new leadership—it demands consistent moral principles that transcend partisan politics.

Speaker 1:

Hello, good morning, happy Wednesday. We're halfway through the week, all right, we really do have to get right to it. Today. I have a few stories here on X. The first one I want to talk about is this.

Speaker 1:

Givesendgo supposed to be a good Christian company who is the co-founder is not proud to host fundraiser for alleged track meat murderer. Suspect says some donors are wrong but as yet he's hosting. I'm so disappointed. However, he has a reason. Um.

Speaker 1:

More than a half a million dollars has been donated to the help carmelo anthony official fund on the crowdsourcing site gifts and go. Now I even applied for a job for them because they were hiring for customer service reps. You could work from home. I haven't heard anything back, which is fine. I don't want to work for them now. This half a million dollar sum is the result of an alleged murder that occurred. You know who it is, we know who it is, but I want to get to the part of um now.

Speaker 1:

Give send go is leading an online fundraising for the anthony's, for anthony's family legal expenses. Other major crowdsource platforms, including gofundme and kickstarter, have not platformed a campaign for anthony on their sites. Good, but give send go co-founder Jacob Wells and his leadership team are featuring Anthony's campaign. Oh y'all, please don't do this. How proud am I of this campaign? I don't. I wouldn't say I'm proud at all. Wells told Fox News Digital, but he's again a Christian company. I have no pride in having this being on Give Send Go. I just have appreciation for what Give Send Go is doing in the midst of these tragic moments, which is standing on principle, which is loving people even in the midst of very hard and dark places. You know the victim, austin Metcalf's dad is a Christian, apparently, and he said he gave Carmelo Anthony immediately, which I find really hard to believe. But you know, not hard to believe, but I don't think I could do it right away. Maybe eventually over time. So he's a better Christian than me, I guess. So I think the father might even support this, because Wells claimed his company has only oh gosh, I pop up ad, let's see. Wells claimed his company has only ever removed campaigns for causes deemed illegal or raising money under false pretenses. So what are you going to raise money for Pedophiles? I mean what? Where does it stop? But we got to love everybody, but really you don't have to enable them either. I have a problem with this and I'm just very surprised with GiveSendGo doing this, all right.

Speaker 1:

Moving on, 11% of women who take abortion pills suffer serious adverse events, largest known study finds. This is from LifeSite News. I blogged about this on my blog the other day in conjunction with the FDA, and how dirty and corrupt they are too, and they're really not changing just because, just because Trump's in charge now and they have Dr McCarty Dr Marty McCary is the commissioner now at FDA. He needs to do some stuff. I don't think he's going to, though. I think he's going to be status quo over there at FDA. Over there at FDA, the largest known study of the abortion pill has found that almost 11% of women in the US suffer serious adverse events following a chemical abortion, a rate of 22 times higher than when, than what was reported on the drug label. So that's out on the X-File. If you want to read that, I'm going to, let me go. No, no, let me finish reading this. The simply stated my, my priest stone I guess that's the name of the drug as used in real world conditions is not safe and effective for women. The researchers concluded, without noting the fact that the abortion pill kills innocent unborn beings. So mccary said he's not going to do anything about this abortion pill. He says he needs to wait for more data to come in. Meanwhile, it's not safe and effective. Take the drug off the market while you do more research. And then, because it is harming women, not to mention killing babies. But you know, whatever, what am I going to do about it? Right, just because Trump is in charge now, just because he's the president and he has signed these executive orders, doesn't mean we are back to normal, because we're not.

Speaker 1:

Because pennsylvania school board votes unanimously to return graphic lgbt books to library. This is also from life's life site news. Let's go over here. The radnor township school district board of pennsylvania voted unanimously yeah, unanimous, unanimous, yeah to restore several notorious books promoting LGBT ideology to children to the school, a library, despite their explicit nature. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the board voted six to zero, with three abstentions, to restore genderqueer, with three abstentions to restore genderqueer. Fun home and blankets, reversing a committee's February judgment that they were not age-appropriate. These books are memoirs about real struggles that our students have. Really. Why do they have it, though? Because of you. Board President Sarah Dunn declared Are you going to tell kids you can't have your books back. You go buy them at barnes and noble. Okay, go buy them online, they're not banned, but I want them out of the library at children where, where my grandson is eventually going to probably go to. No, we're not having it. Um. Disagreement remained, however, over when and how to amend the 2000, blah blah. So that is still happening and, um, a lot of other things are still happening thanks to liberal judges.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to read a couple other uh headlines and then we're going to move on to the question of the day. Let's see here um other headlines. This is the most useless phrase to put in an email expert says it's, it accomplishes nothing, and that phrase is just checking in. So this is. This is actually a pretty long post on on the new york post. It's a long article actually, and I, just after I started reading it, I didn't. I was like you know what this is the liberals trying to tell us what we can and cannot say, because it makes people uncomfortable. F you, that's all I have to say about that. I'm going to say what I want to say. Um, okay, I guess that's all I've got. Well, we're going to move on to the question of the day. Here we go.

Speaker 1:

But first I have to say I was pretty impressed how you guys sent me the stuff yesterday. Uh, giblet sent me randy johnson hits a bird while he was pitching and I watched the video. I was like, oh, I think I had like an out loud physical response to that. Oh my gosh, that was so wild. And then nancy's vodka's denture you know who I'm talking about. That's a long, that's a long name. Let me see if I can go find it. Nancy's soaked nancy's vodka soaked denture sent me one rick mirrors, being the only person to skin a rabbit with a racing tire. I watched that too.

Speaker 1:

Wow, there are some weird stuff happening out there in the sports world. That's crazy. So along that line, I need give me something, give me some more of that stuff, let's. Let's go with music. Let's go with. Let's go with music, let's go with concerts. Have you been to a concert or or what kind of famous concert happened where some weird other than like Ozzy Osbourne supposedly bit a bat's head off? I don't think that really happened, but is there anything weird like that that happened that you can send me more videos of? That was some wild stuff, all right, I don't know if that's really a question of the day, but hold on a minute, okay. If you don't like that question, then here's a question of question today, Trump's first 100 days. Do you think things are going well and do you think anybody's going to be fired soon? If so, who? Who do you think will be fired from the cabinet? Okay, I gotta go. Thanks for listening. Love y'all Bye.
